QUALITY / SAMPLE REVIEW

How to Evaluate Cosmetic Samples Before Bulk Production

A sample is useful only when feedback identifies the exact version, test conditions and decision. “Looks good” is not enough to control the approved production basis.

The direct answer

A sample is useful only when feedback identifies the exact version, test conditions and decision. “Looks good” is not enough to control the approved production basis.

Record the sample identity

Use product name, formula or fragrance code, shade, component code, date and version. Photograph the label and keep one approval record so different reviewers are discussing the same item.

Evaluate by category

Review appearance, odor, texture, application, color, finish and relevant use experience. Separately inspect fill, pump or spray, closure, component fit, printing, artwork and carton condition. Apply appropriate testing based on product and market.

Turn feedback into a decision

State approved, revise or reject; describe the observed issue and desired direction; and identify which new sample replaces the previous version. Production should reference the final approved specification and artwork.

Project boundary: MOQ, price, samples, timing, testing, labels and compliance scope must be confirmed for the actual product and destination market.

Who should keep the approval record?

The buyer and project team should share one traceable reference to the approved version.

What happens after a revision?
